Father Horacio Medina
Father Horacio Medina - Priest and Labor Union Organizer
Father Horacio Medina is a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Newark in New Jersey. He has served since May 1998, preaching God’s Word to Catholic faithful. While serving in the church, Father Horacio Medina has also built a parallel career in the construction industry. He is the human resources manager at Maverick Building Services, Maintenance, and Cleaning, also in Newark. Previously, he was a foreman and shop steward at the same organization.
Passionate about labor rights, Fr Horacio Medina is an organizer for Local Union 32BJ. He has received several awards for his labor movement work, including a 2018 Social Justice Leadership Academy award for his commitment to helping other members develop their skills.
His academic background is extensive, including studies in theology and sacred scripture in El Salvador (master’s degree), philosophy and humanities in Costa Rica, and moral theology in Rome. He has a BA in journalism and communications, which he earned while in Honduras. In 2023, he earned a diploma in mental health first aid for adults from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in Newark.
Fr Horacio Medina is deeply engaged in community outreach and teaching. He serves as a professor of Greek philosophy, Spanish as a second language, and moral ethics at Saint Peter’s University. His ministry includes hospital visits, prison outreach, and daily gospel reflections that reach thousands of people.
